A quintessential foot-in-mouth moment: you bump into an acquaintance and notice that her belly is a bit larger, so you hesitantly ask, “When are you due?” - only to hear the dreaded response: “Um, I’m not pregnant.” Doh! But there’s no doubt about it now. As you can see, Daph’s midsection is starting to expand a bit. Some of her clothes are becomming too tight to button (in fact, she’s out shopping for a couple of new clothing items right now as I write this). So I have set out to capture the expansion on film.

Also, last week we were treated to the sound of the baby’s heartbeat at the doctor’s office, which was quite a thrill. And although we’ve been told that we probably won’t begin to feel the baby kicking until a few more weeks from now, Daph says she may have felt it the other night when she rolled over in bed!

It’s certainly fun to share the big news with friends, and to hear the words of wisdom that those who already have kids share back with us. I just received an email from an old friend with a particularly poignant piece of advice: “This sort of thing happens very very rarely in a lifetime - cherish every moment.” There’s only one first time for any experience…

Since there’s not much happening yet on the outside, I thought it’d be more sensible to post some images of what’s happening on the inside…

Dec 2, 2006 This is our first glimpse of the little tadpole. It’s the white blob in the upper left inside the big black blob. It’s head is angled to the left, slightly down. This was from our first doctor’s appointment - turns out we were already 9 weeks along at that point. No wonder Daph’s been feeling a bit nauseous…

Dec 20, 2006 The tadpole’s getting bigger. It’s totally wild to see the little heart beating so rapidly! No doubt the next 7 months are gonna go by in a flash. Time to start reading up…

Jan 2, 2007 Ah, now it’s starting to look like a little person. (Higher resolution helps too…) The little guy-or-gal was really moving around! Hmm, wonder if Mom’s gentle profile will win out over Dad’s protruberant chin!

Happy New Year! We hope your holidays were enjoyable and possibly even relaxing. Well, Daph & I have finally done it - we’ve finally joined the blogosphere. One resolution to check off the list. Not sure if that’s still a fashionable thing to do, but we finally have something to blog about: A baby due in July! We figured what better way to let our families & friends share in this journey than with a blog… Cheers!
