Not complete without a chart

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

As you can see from this highly informative chart, progress has been generally up and to the right. Growth was stronger than forecast in early Q1, resulting in some pressure from management to tone it down a bit. With some new corrective measures in place, we were able to track to a more sensible rate, and have since received high ratings…

Nesting…

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

I had heard people talk about a pregnant woman’s “nesting instinct”, and I was curious to see how it would manifest itself in our family. After a couple of weekends packed with disassembling and moving out old furniture, deep-cleaning nooks & crannies that I had never even considered before, assembling and arranging new furniture, and several trips to various baby supply stores, my curiosity is now satisfied. And my body is aching. But we have ourselves a baby room!

We’re also half-way through a birthing class, and our homework was to watch a DVD that the instructor handed out. So we sat down after dinner last night and watched 5 different births. In a word: Wow. Speaking of, we’re almost there ourselves. Here’s Daph into her 36th week:

Shower!

A couple weekends ago Daph’s good friend Debra came to visit for a few days and threw us a baby shower while she was here. She invited a small group of friends, and we all met at the Hukilau restaurant in Palo Alto and spent a wonderful afternoon hanging out, eating, and playing a variety of baby-related games - one of which was to avoid saying the word “baby” or risk losing a dollar bill. Other games included:

  • Guess the circumference of the pregnant lady’s belly
  • The Price is Right, with baby items (in which I surprisingly made an above-average showing, despite neither having a baby yet nor particularly enjoying the average trip to the mall)
  • Race to drink a baby-bottle’s worth of, well, spiked fruit juice (which left everyone a bit tipsy - and man is it tough to drink through those rubber nipples!)
  • Arts & crafts on baby clothes (Debra brought a variety of plain white baby clothes to use as canvas, and colored glues and other coloring utensils.  We ended up with a wardrobe of creative, colorful drawings on the tiny clothing items!)

It was great to hang out with everyone, and we received some very thoughtful gifts. Thanks Debra for going out of your way to help launch us into parenthood!
